Default Microsoft Hotmail still runs on U**x

[QUOTE]
Microsoft admits it still hasn't upgraded its Hotmail system to Windows, almost four years after embarking on the task, and fifteen months after the first load balancing machines began to be shifted to Windows 2000 from FreeBSD.

65% of the time we spend on the web is off-topic....none related to our jobs....WHY IS THAT?

darkcrow - your new sig reminds me of the simpsons opening with bart at the chalkboard...you'll have to change it every episode...or something.

microsoft...didn't know they couldn't run their own server for their own email service... unix has always been stable though, just not end user friendly. But then again, some things shouldn't be easy.

Actually that story isn't fully accurate.

The majority of the backend / storage is still Solaris, the edge servers when I was there last were a mix of FreeBSD and Win2k / .NET servers.

When it was purchased it was all FreeBSD front end boxes and Solaris back.

Surprised the REG didn't check a little further , also surprised anyone could understand what I wrote in the first place...

DaRKCrow-

You need a nun to rap your knuckles with a wooden ruler until they bleed. (Why do you think I have trouble with chopsticks -- damn nuns!)

I have a feeling that article has taken a few years to get to press. And yes, it isn't entirely accurate.
