mingster...my wish came true!!
Your post about a week ago had strange timing for me. Although I did not respond I sure was wishing and praying.
It all began 25 days ago when my wife went into the hospital for a yearly colonoscopy. Her Mother passed away from colon cancer 5 years ago and my wife has been struggling with Ulcerative Colitis for the past few years. Because of the history of colon cancer in her family a yearly colonoscopy is pretty much a must for her.
Well the test results were very poor we were not surprised. She had over 50 polyps thru out the lower 4 feet of her colon and 4 as the Dr. said were suspicous and cause for concern(possible cancer). They took many biopsey's and we waited a week for the results. Fortunately they came back negative.
The week following she began to have alot of bleeding and pain. The Doctor suggested to increase her Prednisone to perhaps calm down her colon bleeding. After taking many biopseys some bleeding is fairly normal.
On July 8th she began bleeding excessively and we called the Dr. he suggested to bring her in for some test. When we arrived at the Hospital the Dr. immediately saw she was washed out and had her admitted asap.
The treatment for a flair up of Colitis is I.V. Prednisone some saline to get her hydrated no food or drink and TPM, a nutrition I.V. The Dr. hoped that this would put her Colitis in remission within a couple of days.
After 5 days there was no change and the bleeding cramping, spasm were still very much prevelent. At that point the Dr. said we will give it 2 more days then make a decision to either begin a new form of treatment for Colitis which consisted of I.V. Cyclosporine (a very powerful immune surpressent drug) or remove her colon.
After 2 more days of the Prednisone no change so we had to make the decision. We opted to try the I.V. Cyclosporine. This treatment would take 5-7 days to see if it was going to work, if not there were no other options but to remove her colon.
So we prayed and held out hope this would work and I am glad to say it seems to have put her colitis into remission. She will be coming home tommorow after 16 days of physical and mental agony in the hospital.
This is no cure but we hope her colitis will stay in remission after the oral cyclosporine is slowly reduced and she is off it completely. Only time will tell.... about 6 months. She will be taking approx. 45 pills a day to and reducing them as the weeks move on.
So now you know what I was wishing for and my wish seems to have been granted
She will be back home where she belongs tommorow at about noon.
On a side note the one thing that helped me get thru all this was my daily commute to the hospital, the weather was fantastic and I drove my Stook everyday there. I guess you could call the S2000 theraputic
So my wish was for my wifes health to improve and for her to get home. Wish granted....

HOLY COW, Charlie!
I know that was aimed at Mingster, but man, I feel for you and your wife. I don't even know what colitis is, but it sounds horrible. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her for a successful treatment to this. I am a cancer survivor of 13 years, so I know what the miracles of modern medicine are, I'm glad that you are seeing some benefit from what I touched upon many years ago.
God bless the two of you....and that scary little critter, Officer Evil Pockets. Godspeed and good health to her...!

Charlie-
I lost both my grandfathers to cancer within 18 months of eachother when I was in college. As the child of multiple divorces, these men were the pillars of my life and losing them affected me in ways that I can't begin to explain.
Since that time, my life has been touched many times by this little bastard that we call cancern. A few momths ago, my best buddies Mom was mis-diagnosed with cancer and that scared the crap out of all of us. Since that time, one of my co-workers and the sweetest women in the world has been fighting cancer of the lower intestines and ovaries. Unfortunately, her story isn't as happy as she has been losing the battle despite some surgery and experimenal treatments. Most recently, the doctors found some spotting in my grandma's lungs and she is scheduled for the full imaging exam later this month.
To be sure, I hate cancer and appreciate your circumstances.
My fiancee and I will add you and your wife to our prayer list and keep you both in our thoughts. We wish both of you the best and hope that your wife has a speedy recovery.
Keep well, keep positive, and know that there are folks out here pulling for both of you.

Charlie: my best wishes to you and your wife. I know this must have been an agonizing time for both of you and I'll include you both in my prayers.
There is another member of this board whose family is suffering with the burden of cancer right now, both his mother and grandmother are in pretty serious condition (mom is stable and shows slight improvement, grandmother was just diagnosed). I can't divulge who it is; I'll let him tell you if he wants, but please say a prayer for him and his family too. It's been a tough time and I know he can use whatever positive thoughts you guys can send his way.
The mass outpouring of warm fuzzies from this community never ceases to amaze me. I'll end by saying that I've been touched by the kindness of the people here when I needed it most and I'm grateful to be a part of this community!

Wow Charlie,
My thoughts and prayers will be with your family.
To the other member of the board that Sondra mentioned. I fully understand wanting to keep something like your families problem quiet. I'm sure there are many here who will be thinking of you even if we don't know exactly who you are.
