Default missing out on smoking?

smoking is bad for your health. no argument. but i've seen many friends "take a drag" (i think that's the lingo) from a cig and it makes them looks really happy/satisfied. so much that it makes me wonder if im missing out on smoking.

figure it like this. people are also addicting to eating food. some of the best moments in life are when you are really hungry and you get to eat a meal. doesn't even have to be a great meal. food is food sometimes. many good tasting foods are bad for us. can't this be analogous to the smoking experience?

i have only tried smoking when i was a kid and i couldn't stop coughing for 10 mins. but like i said, sometimes i wonder...

I'm sure heroin feels awesome, but I'll pass.

I can't describe smoking to you. Being a chronic smoker myself, all I can say is my body needs it to feel fine. There are some things in this world you just don't have to try.

While it's true that it's a great feeling to take a nice big drag and fill up your lungs with smoke, you're not missing out. It's something I wish I hadn't gotten so addicted to and know I could never be one of those "just a drag or two when I drink" types. When I get back from vacation I'm finally interested in actually quitting altogether.

The only thing you're missing out is spending hundreds of dollars each month and setting it on fire.

Yeah, you're missing out on a lot from not smoking. You're missing out on smelling pretty nasty to other people. You're missing out on your car smelling nasty, as well. Same with your home. You're missing out on having everything in the house taking on a nice deep ochre tinge. You're missing out on standing outside in the cold to get your fix. You're missing out on emphasema, where scar tissue build up in your lungs reducing the ability to get adequate oxygen until you're struggling to take a breath. You're missing out on having a nasal cannula delivering oxygen to your repiratory system day in, day out. You're missing out on increased risk of heart disease. You're missing out on lung cancer. My father died at 62 because they couldn't operate on him for an infected toe since his lung capacity was at 10% and anasthesia would have killed him.
Yeah, your missing out on a whole hell of a lot.

my dad died this past year due to smoking. he was 61.
in 2006 a tumor was spotted on his bladder (a common place for smokers). The cancer then spread into his hips and bones until he could not walk anymore. A year later my brothers, my grandparents, and other family were in the hospital every day for 2 months while he was in and out of a coma. aside from seeing us when he was awake, the only other thing he wanted was cigarettes.

i think smoking is retarted...the biggest waste of money and time ever.

you'll miss out on your family more than anything.

You're not missing out on anything by not smoking. Now coke is a different story.

I am an addicted smoker. Your not missing out. The joy you see is the joy of calming the craving. I want to quit and hope too very soon. It is not the nicotine that gets me, it is the mental aspect.

just trying to think outside the box and propaganda. isn't the feeling of eating after being hungry the same satiating sensation?
