Miter Saw Help!
Hey guys, I am in need of a miter saw for some minor home improvement projects here and there. I found one I like,
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores...xtb&R=100634340
but don't understand something...click on the above link, click on the specifications, and if you understand what they mean, help me out...
1)The above saw has a 10" blade.
2)At 0 miter and 0 bevel (basically a straight cut) right, the saw can cut 12".
How the hell can a 10" blade cut a 12" piece? It's not a compound saw, so it can't rock forward, so what gives?
If I AM reading it wrong, what is the maximum length this thing can cut straight down?
Here is the manufacturers link...
http://www.ryobitools.com/catalog/power_to...r_saws/TS1342L#
According to this, the max. cut is 3.5"....what gives?

These only go up and down.
My problem is this...I need to cut some laminate, but it's 8" wide, so I just want to know if this damn thing can do it or not. For a straight cross cut, you would be set at 0 miter and 0 bevel.
I have used it to cut Pergo laminate flooring. You make the first cut all the way through then rotate 180 and finish the cut. Worked fine. Since each piece is staggered, the cut edge is always on the outside. your trim should cover up any imperfects.

You will be pretty quick at it after a few cuts. Not worth shelling out the big bucks for the compound. And the best alternate to a skill saw or table saw. Probably make the cleanest cuts too.
LUCKY, mine didn't have the laser guide.
Good luck!

I figured as much, I just wanted to be able to do it in one cut. so be it then. At least it has a laser guide for easy cutting.

It's all good, It'll have to be the annoying way.
