Moral Question - bragging or spreading the word
I am leaving my opinion out for now.
is this bragging or is this spreading the word.
basically the couple had bad service but used to be servers and understood why, since the Resaurant was understaffed... so they left a $100 tip and wrote "we've been in your shoes, pay it forward" and left a $100 tip..... very nice of them.... then posted it on facebook.... it has gone viral now....
by posting it on FB was that bragging or was that spreading the word or was it _____________?

An Iowa couple's kind gesture is going viral.
Makenzie Schultz posted to Facebook over the weekend about the bad service she and her husband experienced at a restaurant.
"Took 20 minutes to get water, 40 minutes for an appetizer and over an hour for our entrée. People all around us were making fun of the restaurant and how bad the service was," she wrote.
But the server was juggling 12 tables plus the bar on an obviously short-staffed night.
"I said to Steven, wow, this used to be us. Waiting tables. I don't miss it at all and I never loved that job. I did it for the tips. Steven and I agreed it would feel good to make this guy's night when he would probably be getting minimal to no tips due to slow service," Schultz wrote.
Schultz posted a photo of their receipt from the night, with a $100 tip and a note about "paying it forward." They left before their server could notice.
Since Saturday, the post has gotten more than 1.2 million likes on Facebook.

^exactly what I was thinking... patting themselves on the back..... they could have left the $100 tip and moved on in life but instead felt like the entire world needed to know what good people they are... doh....

Okay, so the mitigating factor in my mind is whether they still have a VCR that blinks 12:00 all night or not. . . bear with me. . .
If they do have the VCR, then chances are good they have no clue that Facebook is a broadcasting system. They're just being old(-ish, kinda) and sweet, and still using those new Intertubes.

If they have a Chromecast, AppleTV, or some fancy-fangled networked Blu-Ray player or PS4, then they can wallow in a bucket of their own remnants after having two orders of Skyline 5-Ways.
Perhaps they posted it to pat themselves on the back. However, the possible result (intended or otherwise) is that others are now looking outside of themselves and considering what an act of generosity and understanding can do. The Pay-It-Forward message has been given a little extra time in the spotlight and maybe others will consider doing the same. It's refreshing to see someone do something nice.
Or maybe they are just selfish liars and it's all a giant hoax.

ahhahah... lots of good replies..... I never thought of them actually not leaving the tip and instead just making it look like they did. lol
the Pay it forward idea is neat except for the term.... so now the waiter/waitress needs to also "pay it forward" (or feel like a dick for not).....? seems like a chore in a way....
what happened to just doing something nice for someone and moving on? no need to post / brag / etc....

Paying it forward isn't a chore. It's just a reminder that maybe when you are in a position to help someone out, you'll remember that someone helped you and you will do the same. It's just a variation on the golden rule.
I don't know whatever happened to doing something nice and moving on. No one posts about that. For all we know, nobody does that anymore or they do and we don't know (Schroedinger's Cat again). At least with this couple's public post, it's got people thinking about doing something nice. Maybe it will result in an extra good deed today and cause someone to be helped who might otherwise have been ignored...or worse.
