More craziness from those Canadians!
Oh man, this is amazing. I heard this on the radio coming home this afternoon. It seems that Ontario (I am pretty sure that's where it was) has passed an ordinance that makes the fine for parking in a handicapped parking space (if you are not handicapped) to be 5,000 dollars! That's 3,000 Canadian!
Can you imagine?!
My jaw dropped when I heard this...it seems that the Canuck version of the ADA has paved the way for this kind of insanity. I wonder what's next...10,000 dollars for spitting on the sidewalk?!
Better there than here!
Still...crazy!!

I always heard that in Maine, if you get caught poaching lobster traps, the first time is a warning, the second time they saw your boat in half. Same kind of sh*t. Can anyone in Maine out there tell me if this is (or was) true?
actually, its not that bad of a law if you think about it.
I remember pulling up to Mozarts on Lake Austin and noticed BMW in a handicapped spot. I sat there and rambled with a friend about how crappy it was to park there. The guy came out and said, "I was only here for a few minutes." My response back to him, "should it matter?"
If you've ever had a handcapped license plate or a handicapped hanger on the rear view mirror, you really need it. Even once after I was hospitalized, I had one for 6 months. The only advantage to it was parking during the Christmas season at the Galleria in Houston.
I wish a law like this would be implimented closer to home.

Yep they started cracking down, Thing is I don't see many people if any that park in the handicap spots, so I'm don't think they are gonna make the money they're hoping to.

I don't see anything wrong with extreme fines. Laws are created to be adhered to, not to be broken. In the same light, we have to remember that the $ quoted is the maximum fine that can be imposed. I'd be hard pushed to believe that every offender will actually recieve the maximum penalty.

I hardly ever see anyone park in Handicapped spots here in Ontario.
However I did park in a pregnant lady spot last week and got a $10 fine. I threw it away, those spots are demented.
I could really freak them out and fake pregnant.
Anyone else see those things in Ontario. Makes me crazy. Expecting Mother spots.
What if your 2 days pregnant, can you park there?
