Default the most amazing sites on the 'net

I just stumbled upon this site again (the pictoral essay by the woman who rides her motorcycle through the Chernobyl area 15 years after the accident), and every time I see those pictures, I just go... woah. what a trip.

so it got me wondering what other sites s2ki people go to that are truly mind-blowing. not just cool (like the Hubble pictures)... or gross... (like rotten.com-- DO NOT GO THERE )... or pornographic ( )... but truly amazing sites that take you out of your present mindframe/paradigm and open a window into a whole 'nother reality. sort of like the online equivalent of a damn good book (fiction or non-fiction)

oh yeah, and no game sites either please. Warcraft on battle.net might be mind blowing for many of you... but I'm looking for something less overly interactive. so if you have to log in to enjoy the "wow" factor, pls. don't include it here.

anyway, www.kiddofspeed.com is the only one that comes to mind right now for me. anybody else?

http://www.cbcradio3.com

This is the website one of my design professors made for CBC Radio. It's garnered great accolades and has swept a lot of the awards.

You must must check it out. He also did most if not all of the photography on that site. Amazing stuff. The average user spends about 40 minutes on that website -- which is insane considering that most people spend less than 2 on most other sites.
