Default Music Recommendations

I have never been much of a music person. I buy the occasional CD here and there and end up listening to it for a long time till I pretty much get sick of it. The problem is, whenever I am driving I always have a CD on and listening to the same stuff over and over gets REALLY old and fast! I'll let my gf plug her ipod in for a bit but pretty soon it is all girl music and I have to put my foot down

My favorite music is probably light rock -- for example Somthing Corporate, Gavin Degraw, Jack's Mannequin...along those lines, I've always felt a guitar and a piano go very well together.

I also listen to some (note)techno, not dance music. Techno being a song with at least some words not like dance music that lasts 10 minutes and has random beats throughout the whole song.

The rock / pop / punk is another category I listen to as well. This would include bands like The Starting Line, Sum 41, My Chemical Romance, Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, Superdrag, and so on and so forth.

The genres that I have never had much like for would be rap, any kind of hardcore that involves screaming, and most metal / deathmetal.

I'm just looking for some suggestions on some music that would fit my tastes. I really appreciate it as I am getting very tired of listening to the same stuff on a day to day basis.

Regards,
Jonathan

One of the more alternative Australian radio stations here has just finished its annual top 100 music poll . They have the countdown available for streaming off their website for 2 weeks at:
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/

Some Aussie bands you may want to check out are:

- The Whitlams (piano+guitar pop/rock)
- Powderfinger
- Silverchair (you have probably heard of these guys)
- Xavier Rudd (blues/roots type)
- John Butler Trio (blues/roots type)
- Wolfmother (led zepplin/black sabbath sounding - did well at south by southwest festival)
- The Living End (punkish rockabilly

Ryan Adams - Gold
Jack Johnson (any...specifically, On and On)
Ani Difranco

That's some of my favorite mellow or laid back music. I also like Ryan Adam's Wildflowers as a reference track for auditioning audio gear.

John Mayer Trio's live album sounds like SRV (gutiar work and vocals).
