I played the panio in elementary school for maybe a year or two.

Oh and I do have this other instrument that I currently play, it's called the S2000.

Ooh... a Baldwin grand! Must have had some kinda tone. I'm limited to a Yamaha digital. Goes to show you how well I play the thing.

Guitar, bass, piano, and sing a bit. Jack of all trades, master of none.

UnkieTrunkie 11-24-2014 10:35 AM

(French) Horn, Trumpet, 3 keyboards (Roland, vintage Casio, Yamaha), 3 Guitars (Breedlove Discovery, Reverend Charger 390, Peavy POS Strat clone), Vox amp, Fender Jazz Bass, Baldwin console, and a whole assortment of odds n' ends.

Conducted 3 light operas, play with 2 opera companies, on call for 2 more, and on call for dozens of other groups. Mostly Horn, but get bugged for the rest often.

yup.. Baldwin's have a unique tone.. I didn't like this piano much as it was kinda old (from late 70's).. but it was American-made atleast (as opposed to the newer Chinese made ones).

windhund116 11-29-2014 04:55 PM

Just bought me another guitar. A 1999 Made in Mexico (MIM) Fender Telecaster. Woo-hoo!

Good choice windhund. Generally underrated vs. the American series, but with a good setup, can play great.

windhund116 12-16-2014 09:00 AM

Unkie, got my Telecaster yesterday. Will take some photos.

Anyhow, found this old recording a friend and I did on his computer-studio (using Cool Edit Pro). Over-dubbed three guitars onto rhythm backing track. Me on a Les Paul. Him on a Strat and Taylor acoustic. Ever heard of Peter Green era of Fleetwood Mac? After many takes...

Finally got around to test driving the Telecaster. Sweet, twangy tone. Amp is 1962 Ampeg Jet.

baZurk 12-24-2014 05:18 AM

Those Telecasters have a great tone. I have a Washburn that I learned to play on and now I also own a Dean and two acoustics. I played Clarinet through Elementary and Middle School and finally Jazz Band, then picked up the piano in high school. I no longer have my keyboard but I've been looking for something cheap to play around on. I also plan to upgrade to a marshall halfstack tube amp soon

windhund116 12-24-2014 05:51 AM

What Marshall amp. A vintage JCM 800? I've redone my share of those. I really like the old 1987 50-watt leads.

On a half-stack, I'm sure your neighbors will enjoy those tune-up sessions.

baZurk 12-24-2014 08:18 AM

Its actually the vs100.

I've started to casually play with some friends so I need something that can heard easily over drums haha

windhund116 12-24-2014 10:36 PM

I like some of the Valvestates. If you are looking to upgrade that 12AX7, the new Gold Lion (Russian made) B759/ECC83 is very nice.

Bud Herseth personally. I'm less skilled in the Arturo school of thought.

This was my gear some months ago, I recently added an EMU Vintage Keys keyboard, I'm into Prog Rock, but I nearly don't play since months, I need to pick it up again some day when I find some more free time...

Attachment 171520

* Aria Pro II Cardinal Series CS-350 Electric Guitar (the red one, Japan made): this was my first decent guitar and I still play it sometimes for the cleaner, more jazzy stuff. I replaced the neck pickup by a Seymour Duncan and I installed a Floyd Rose tremolo bridge and it's a pretty nice sweet guitar.

* Carvin DC135T Electric Guitar (the blue one, US made): this is the one I play the most, good for the heavier stuff and soloing. 1-piece construction, 24 frets neck, Floyd Rose tremolo bridge, humbucker in the bridge and single coils in middle and neck, phase shifter...

* Fender Gemini II acoustic guitar (made in Korea): this was a present and I have never been fond of its sound or playing feel, I would have never bought it myself. Perhaps one day I will be able to afford a Gibson J-200...

* Peavey Fury bass (US made): following the Fender Precision style, it's nothing serious but it's fine for me, I'm not really a bass player anyway so for my needs it's good enough.

* Yamaha GW50 multi-FX pedalboard: works as single effects pedals or as a multi-FX combinations with 128 factory presets and 128 user presets, more than enough for an amateur like myself, I'm fine with it.

* Boss GT-10 multi-FX pedalboard: I bought this one recently out of a 'buying rush' and I still don't know what to say, it's extremely powerful but you need to spend a lot of time to master it (which I have not done yet). I don't think it's practical as a single effects pedalboard because it does not have independent knobs for each effect's parameters, everything needs to be programmed one by one by menus and a few buttons and a selection wheel, it seems more meant to program your own multi-fx presets and then play with those, and I'm still far from understanding all what it takes. Of course it has many good factory presets too but I'm still a bit lost with it.

* Yamaha PSR2100 Keyboard: this was also a present, I would have never bought it myself. The built-in sounds are not very exciting for rock playing, it's more the kind of keyboard for programming all the rhythms and backing tracks and then play the melodies on top to entertain the old guests at an hotel lounge bar in the evening, but OK, recently I bought the EMU Vintage Keys keyboard so this one will go to the attic or to eBay I guess.

* E-Mu Vintage Keys keyboard (not in the pic): I just bought this one 2nd hand and I still need to learn about it, but it has many vintage sounds, Moogs, Mellotrons, ARPs, Oberheims, Rhodes, Wurly's, CP70 and so on, so it should be fun.

* Hughes & Kettner Attax Series Tour Reverb Amp: 100W, a pretty nice guitar amp.

* Peavey Audition 30W Amp: just for home practicing, I nearly never use it having the H&K, I use it mainly for the keyboard

I have also a bass amp SWR Engineering "Basic Black" sitting at some friend's place and I am also co-owner of a Roland U-20 keyboard which sits at a friend's place for years (the other co-owner).

In any case, I can't complain about gear, what I need now is starting to play again!

Jdrum1 04-10-2016 05:57 AM

Been playing for 20+ years.

I always thought Spencer Dryden was one of the more under-rated drummer. Love some of his intros, in the JA days. With that wicked Jack Casady bass line.

The Carvin is really nice, it has a very light action, the clean sound is not as good as with a Strat or a Les Paul but I mostly play with some distortion or overdrive. I'm just an amateur and I haven't much tried many other guitars, but for what I have tried it feels more like some of the Ibanez metal-oriented guitars.

My only amp now is a Fender 2x12 Reverb Combo. Get really nice cleans out of it. I have a pedal board to get the nice and crunchy sounds out of. Boss Mega Distortion, EQ, Noise Suppressor, Chorus, Digital Delay. The orange one and the acoustic are both tuned a half step down. The blue one is in drop Bb. She is wayyyy down low. LOL.

Most of the shows I play are acoustic shows, so the acoustic PRS Angelus gets a LOT of love. It is such a sweet playing guitar. It is so loud and projects so much that the guy who plays with me in our acoustic duet has his guitar turned up twice as loud to mix.

windhund116 05-21-2016 04:53 PM

Nice! Is the amp a '65 Twin Reverb re-issue? Nice amp. I have one, loaded with JBL K120's. LOUD, is all I'm gonna say!

I was thinking about making one of these threads but it looks like there are quite a few of us here already . Guitar was my main hobby before I had the disposable income for cars. A helluva a lot cheaper too

Jackson Fusion HH. Cool mid 90's Japanese Jackson, 24.75in scale with a one piece mahogany body. Was originally an ugly trans red color but I refinished it with around 20 coats of teak oil:
Attachment 165768

Old LTD MV300-another short scale super strat. Thinking about selling this one and picking up something a little less metal.
Attachment 165769

Jackson COW7. Another Japanese Jackson, but with 7-strings. I might have been the first person to install a neck pickup on one these, which was kind of cool. I don't have a need for a 7-string anymore but this is easily the best guitar I've touched and I'd instantly regret parting with it. The guitar just resonates like a mother****er. Also pictured with my rig:

windhund116 10-13-2016 03:24 PM

Nice little setup!

Went to GC to help a friend buy a ukulele for her daughter. This is dangerous. Found this nice Concert sized Lanikai with Fishman piezo pickup and onboard pre-amp/EQ. It was crying for me to adopt it. You know just like those crazy midnight ads on cable for shelter dogs. The ones with eye boogers and all the sad faces.

Yup! Bought it. Now, for the little lady. "Honey, you won't believe what happened today on the way home from work..."

She sure is pretty :tipwink:. I'm a huge sucker for figured Koa.

What's playing a Uke like? I've never tried it since playing rarely branches out from metal, but it always looks so fun. Hard to find someone not smiling when they're strumming one of those little guys

windhund116 11-01-2016 05:00 PM

Pretty easy to play. You can tell by photo, light strings are on edge of fretboard. Heavier in middle. Gives the Uke that unique tone, when strumming chords.

TofuProductions 01-16-2017 01:23 PM

I've been playing piano since the age of three, I am now just shy of thirty years old.
I have a Yamaha upright, but plan to have a baby grand Steinway within the year.

I've also been playing the violin since the age of ten and I stopped taking lessons at the age of eighteen but I still play, though not as much as the piano.

I also play the guitar a little, purchased a Taylor GS Mini, but as I'm still learning right now, it's a slow process (it doesn't transition from violin as much as I hoped it would)..

windhund116 01-17-2017 08:48 AM

Love to see photos of that Steinway baby grand! Beautiful instruments, for sure. Needs nice a BIG room, though. Friend got this old Baldwin upright (like 1930's vintage). Very tall upper panel. It has to have one of the sweetest tones I've heard.

Maybe, try a Uke? Good ones are cheap. Easier to learn than a guitar (IMHO). Lots of good YT videos. Chords are all different than a guitar. But, the right-hand/left-hand thing is the same. I admire your violin skills. WAY TOO MUCH practice and lessons for this impatient person! :)

JamesD89, that first picture you posted of the Fusion looks amazing. I have always been a sucker for 'natural' looking finishes.

Hey all, I'm Bryan. I've been playing guitar for close to 15 years now and it is the main reason why I have a hard time buying parts for my ap2 nowadays. Whenever I have the extra cash and I know I want or need something for my s2000, I'll do my best to avoid guitar websites/stores at all costs or else I know I'll end up with another one. I'm assuming some of you guys here have the same issue as well... hahaha.

I have bought, sold, and flipped many guitars but recently slowed down. Currently, my stable consists of a Gibson Les Paul Studio, Gibson SG, 1997 Ibanez JS100, a Hendrix Fender Strat (the newer ones, for anybody who cares or is interested in them, the vintage 65 pickups that come stock on these sound utterly AMAZING. There's no hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4 but that tone though... words can't describe. Even unplugged, there's a certain sound to it.), an RG Prestige, and a Jem Jr. that I got signed by Steve Vai himself at a meet and greet :D (He signed the back of the headstock, then on the side of the headstock along the tuners I asked him to write an inspirational quote that I can look down and see whenever I play it for inspiration, Steve smiled, nodded, and proceeded to write "Be with the note". I was like a little girl at a Bieber concert.)

I figured I'd stop for now to spend more time on my ap2, and considering that each guitar fulfills a certain sound/purpose/niche whatever you want to say, the G.A.S. has been reduced recently... hahaha.

Anyways sorry for the random rant, I should probably go back to work. Rock on fellas!

windhund116 01-23-2017 08:51 AM

Cool stuff! Are the Vintage '65 pups Fender made? What kinda amps & pedals you use?

Thanks! I actually just got a small box of misc parts from Stewmac, a set of Bareknuckle pickups, and a gorgeous burled redwood veneer in the mail. Once the busy season at work slows down that guitar is getting its third overhaul in 3 years. Won't be playable for a few months given the pace I work, but I'm already excited for the end product.

Would love to see some pictures of your collection-it sounds like you have all the bases covered. Of course, it's always easy to find an excuse for a new guitar

Thanks. Quite an investment there over the years. But no I'm not that cutting edge, far from it, still using Digital mini disc recorder/mixer as shown on the table next to the drum machine. If/when I get serious again, I need to get with current times and move in that direction with Computer/software. As you can see, all my gear is rack mount - live/studio) which was popular in the late 80's/through the nineties when I was piecing it all together over that span of time.

That Emerald green Ibanez is also that old, being one of the first Saber series and is my favorite guitar. Nothing feels as sleek and as fast, has great harmonic/tones which I appreciate primarily as a lead player.

I love those older 80s/90s rack mount rigs. They just scream "kill a 6-pack of bud and hammer out thrash riffs"

Love the 540S. Ibanez peaked in mid 90's IMO. Everything out of their Japanese plant kicked serious amounts of ass.

windhund116 02-23-2017 11:20 PM

Sax is a cool instrument. Got to see Wayne Shorter a few times. Who's your favorite sax men?

Fancy_Free 06-13-2017 06:22 PM

I don't know how to play any musical instrument. It's actually one of my life goals to learn one. Maybe the piano or flute, someday.

windhund116 06-14-2017 03:57 PM

Never too late to pick up any instrument. Relaxing, once you hit the right notes, most of the time.

Wish I had more time to air out the axes. :(

hammerhead300 07-13-2017 01:56 PM

I play euphonium, trombone, and tuba. Started on euphonium back in 5th grade, switched to trombone in 7th (luckily I had enough grasp of the fingerings to remember everything over the years), and picked up tuba as a second instrument as a junior in HS. I played through college then took a break for a few years, and started up again about 6 months or so ago. I tried to learn to play guitar when I was younger, but apparently I'm not cool enough for that, so I decided to stick to brasswinds.

Picked up another Jackson (DK2M) to play while my Fusion project gets wrapped up. Spent yesterday putting my shocks back together and cleaning the guitar up (another neglected pawn shop find). The standard Ohlins DFV lower cups actually make great neck stands for tech work

Nice pics. I just saw this thread. I play acoustic guitar pretty badly and mandolin very badly. I do enjoy it though. A bunch of friends have a weekly jam.
Love those telecaster shots - I can hear the rockabilly coming through the internets. :)

Very nice! What kinda amps and pedals do you use?

:)

I play guitar more than anything, although my original instrument was drums. We have a kit, but it was one we bought for our son ... wanting to get a better one for me later again, but space, time, etc Plus, I can be more quiet on a guitar when I need to :)

I have NOT played nearly enough in the past few years and am trying to change that.

For electric, I tend to play the Epi Les Paul in the picture below, connected to a Line 6 amp, the most. I have an older Ibanez (meh) as well. For acoustic, I have an Alvarez acoustic/electric.

It would be great if my passions could generate revenue instead of just expenses

Just a POD HD500x into an Alto TS110A PA speaker. It's loud enough to comfortable jam with other people, but still sounds great at low volumes. Doesn't feel as nice to play on as my old Mesa DC-5, but it sounds better most of the time and gives me way more tonal options without pissing off my neighbors. Still struggling to dial in a great low gain tone, but I mostly play metal so it's not a huge issue.

I did manage to get myself into a regular playing habit again, although the past few weeks it has been more sparse. I have my other electric (old Ibanez) set up at work with a small practice amp I bought so late in the day I sometimes will just plug in and play while reviewing documents and stuff. And, by the way, I am really liking this little practice amp. Cheap, sounds plenty good for small room practice stuff, and while I use the power adaptor, you can run it off batteries. Its built in delay and overdrive work pretty well for the price and size. I am going to take my old Boss DS-1 pedal in and plug it in to see how it works with it one day as well. For size reference, you can hold this amp in one outstretched hand. It is very small!
