They don't use the word "Soviet" anymore, Raj.
Why? Without the "Soviet", it just wouldn't be the same, or make sense. USSR would do just fine as well; but "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" would not.

The first random pic you have of St. Petersburg isn't exactly random. That's a Banksy print ... one of his more famous one's too. Also, I think the other impersonator next to Lenin is Tsar Nicholas II?

and the seated figure statue that you asked us to guess is Dostoevsky (sp?).. or at least I think it is.
Random, as in... just things I saw throughout St Pete.

Good job on getting the Banksy, Tsar Nicholas (Couldn't remember his name), and Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment and others).

Wikipedia: "In the late 1980s the last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev tried to reform the state with his policies of perestroika and glasnost, but the Soviet Union ultimately collapsed and was formally dissolved in December 1991 after the abortive August coup attempt. Since then the Russian Federation has been exercising its rights and fulfilling its obligations."
