I consider math to be a "bastard art" (probably because I suck horribly at it
), but even I got the correct answer. I'm not sure I get the trick....little help maybe?
I came up with 4100 as well. But, as shaggy said, I'm an engineer so that's cheating. 
The trick to this is to add up the like numbers. So, I just added the four 1000s to get 4000 then the 40, 30, 20, and 10 to get 100. Add the two and you get the right answer. Simple and accurate.
