IMHO one of the single worst blows to the quality of news reporting in the last 20 years or so was the advent of 24 hour news stations such as CNN.
In order to fill the airwaves with that much news the focus has become (more than usual) biased reporting and fluff as opposed to content.
The sad truth is that there simply isn't really 24 hours of "news" in a day and that the excessive analysis that we are bombarded with now is not only not accurate in most cases, but has a tendency to cause a heightened sense of anxiety within the general population.
I miss the days when the news was about information and not entertainment.

Somewhat...because they don't tend to report so much as just film the event so you can draw your own conclusions. A lot of what they cover each day is just drivel, though, but the substantive events tend to be pretty good.
I also like CBC as well as BBC for a different perspective on things. I think reporters with these two organizations are like the old school reporters in the US used to be (for the most part).
