Thumbs up Necklace...

Hi,

I was thinking of buying myself a necklace. And on the necklace it says .925 which is 92.5% pure silver. Does that mean its Silver or Sterling Silver? Is this the same thing?

-Thanks.

925 is code for silver. just like 417 is 10k gold, 583 is 14k gold 750 is 18k gold. it tells percentage purity.

Silver is the brightest and shiniest metal in jewelry. Sterling silver jewelry is marked by 925, which symbolizes that it's 92.5 percent pure silver. This is the most optimal purity level because the 7.5 percent of alloy toughens it just enough for jewelry purposes without taking away too much sheen.
Technically it has nothing to do with chemical content but it does have to do with purity. Pure silver isn't easier to work with.
