Default Need advice choosing a digital camera

I would like to buy a digital camera, nothing fancy, but I would like it to be able to photograph material from textbooks and journals (Tables, illustrations)
This would save me a ton of time when preparing lectures.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance
Daniel

I would highly recommend the Canon S230. Solid performing point and shoot digital camera. I have had the S200 since December. I'm quite happy with it so far. Pic quality is pretty good and it is super portable because of it's small size.

Check the Photo Gallery Forum.

One of the stickies is a very extensive thread on digital cameras.

Good Luck,

How about a scanner? Epson 16xx photo scanner is a great buy at around $80-$120, does negetives too. If you want a camera for those memorable moments then I recommend "Canon" Digital product HANDS DOWN! The G2 is affordable and has the best CCD in its class. Go to www.dpreview.com and read some reviews on the most current technology.

I second the Canon recommendation. I was doing some research into digital cameras for the past year or so, when I was deciding on which one to get. And it seems Canon makes the best digital cameras. Lots of companies make great lenses, but mess up in the CCD department (e.g., IMO, Olympus). Not Canon.

Thanks for all your replies.
As to the scanner, it is also an option, (I have one) but I would like the versatility and portability of a camera.
I'm going to have a look at those cannon cameras.
Thanks!

Test images. If you want to compare the quality of camera images.

Canon S50! 5mp and better feature set than the S230. It does cost more but they have been selling lately for $499, so the web price should be around $400 or less. I have taken several pic of text and pictures and was amazed at the readability.
