After a few years of not playing tennis, I have a sudden urge to pick up my racket again. I have to get my racket re-strung and was wondering if anyone can offer some advice on the type of string to get. This will be for recreational purposes only as I do not intend to play competitively...at least not right now, i'm a bit rusty.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I use Gamma Fusion Plus, 15 guage, very good in my opinon i've strung my old racket about 3 times with it, and now my new racket has it.

I did the same thing at the beginning of the summer. I'm now playing a few times a week after an 8 year hiatus. I would personally point you toward the cheapest 16g synthetic you can find.

Let yourself get back into the game for a little while. One of a few things will happen: you'll tire of it quickly and be glad you didn't spend much money on it; you'll love it again and play enough that you'll need to re-string relatively soon anyway; you'll find that you love playing again, but the old racquet doesn't fit your needs anymore and buy a new one (thats what happened to me).

 

I am in that boat. My newest racket is a 8-10 year old "GAMMA" (i am one of 3 people who actually bought a "Gamma" racket i think). My other 2 are 15 year old Rossingnol's - Mats Wilander!

I should go buy 2 decent new rackets so if I ever do decide to play I can with some consistency.

I would venture to say that until you get into the upper echelons of strings, any manufacturer should be fine. See what you can find on sale.

Also, did you break strings before? If not, you might consider a 17g. I've never broken a string and switch to 17g last time around. Next time I might shoot for 18g...or just learn to hit a lot more spin

 

i use gamma live wire. Its very close to natural gut, in feel and control, its my recomendation.
