Default Need to find a hotel in Hong Kong

Anyone have recommendations for where I should stay in HK? I need a hotel that is very close to the HK airport, as my flight leaves at 8:30AM. I'm hoping that it'll be cheap. Thanks in advance.

THe airport is in Lantau Island in Tung Chung. Now there are several hotels on that island. I currently live there. There is Citygate novotel which is located in the mall which is about a 5 US dollar cab ride. In that mall is the hotel, shops, and MTR (Mass Transit Railway) From that Railway is a train directly to Central, which is the financial district in HK. If you have anymore quetisons just PM me.

or you can stay right at the airport hotel - it's got nice rooms but can be pricey. well worth it though when you don't need to spend 30 minutes on a cab getting there at 6 in the morning.

Dude, if you stay by the airport, you aren't going to see anything in HK! Hop on the number 21 or 23 to Kowloon and get a cheap hotel with lots of cockroaches and Nigerians inside. The buses start early enough for you to catch a ride back to the airport by the time your flight leaves.

Yeah, I figured that I won't see anything if I stay near the airport. The thing is, the flight leaves at 8:30 in the morn. You think I can make it to the airport on time if I stay at those cheap hotels and then take MTR in the morn?

I caught a flight out of HK recently at or earlier than 8:30am. I always stay in Kowloon or North Point. If the MTR Airport express opens nice and early at 5:50 in the morning. That's more than enough time for you to stay anywhere in HK. When leaving, take a cab to an MTR station, go to Tsing Yi station, Hong Kong Station, or Kowloon station, and hop on the Airport Express back to the airport. The tickets about $12 usd each way, timetable here:

If you want a 'cultural' experience, stay in kowloon somewhere cheap. As soon as you hop off a bus in the hotel district, swarms of Chinese, Pakistanis and Nigerians will surround you begging to stay at their cheap hotels. You could try the Mirador Mansions if you want an 'experience'. I believe parts of the movie Chungking Express were filmed in that place. Despite the looks, it's fairly safe on the inside.

Kowloon? you mean the kowloon side of HK?? thats like saying... oh if you want to live in the US you should try the western part of the US..

North point is okay... I mean.. lets put it this way.. on the Hong kong side (south Side) you can take a taxi ride from one side to the other for about 20 US bucks. I'm talking extremes....

HK side is known for their fancy hotels.

stay wherever you want... you'll find it easy to get around.. just ask around for the MTR station (Day teet jahm) usually people are pretty helpful to foreigners... just stay away from the people that smell and the ones that talk really really loud and push you out of the way, they dont speak any english or cantonese, they are from Mainland china.

good luck man

one thing to consider, how many luggage you guys are carrying?

forget the whole mk/tst/hkisland hotel deals if you have sh-tload of bags, lugging those suckers around MTR is just purely stupid. you can barely get into the train if you hit rush hours.

one thing for sure, you are not going to see much in the new air port location, it just..nothing. if you guys are packed lightly i would recommend to hit up some spots before returning to the airport.

you can cover alot of places in short time, esp in small region like Hk.

i have couple of hotels up in my head, but let me konw where will you stay.(if you and your gf are staying that is. )
