Default Need MiniDV camera recommendations

I'm in the market for a MiniDV camera. This is just a first one to play around with, once I outgrow it and have a better idea of what the hell I'm doing, I'll upgrade, but for now, just a simple 1CCD model will suffice, so I'm looking for recommendations for a basic camera with good video and audio and an external mic input. Manual focus is also required. In-camera editing not important.

Anyone?

If it's a junker, I'd think any old DV camera would do.

I sold camcorders at Best Buy for a while. I would recomend Sony. They have many models, are moderately priced, and are very user friendly. Panasonic, JVC and then Canon would be my other choices.

Try asking the guys at http://www.wwug.com/forums/adobe_premiere/index.htm

You might get a better/wider responce there.

If you know your going to get a new camera later, why not go big now!?! Why not get the Cannon XL-1B (for the low low price of $4600.00)

I have one & REALLY like it, so I am biased! I also have a Sony TVR-103 which is a digtal 8 (ie lower price than DV). I bought it a few years ago when I was thinking along the same lines as you are now. the Sony has been a great little camera and you could find one for cheap these days. It's not true DV, but it does have a firewire port (EE1394).

My brother had a Sony P5C mini DV he was shooting with over xmas. It took great pictures, but I think it's going for around $1300. I love the size though, you could take it anywhere.

Have fun!
