Oh, and if you buy any video equipment, make sure it's 1080P. Otherwise you're shooting yourself in the foot. most movies will come out in 1080P on blue-ray or hd-dvd. If you buy a player that upconverts, you can even enjoy your old dvd's at 1080i
I have had a Z4 for a few months now and am very pleased with it. It was the same price as the Z5 but it came with a screen and a spare bulb. I have not tried the screen because I made a 9' frame and used blackout cloth.
Make sure the PJ is widescreen native.
I see 'rainbows' when panning my eyes from one side to the other with DLPs so I went with LCD. This was years ago and I think the speeds on the color wheels are faster to prevent this effect.
LCDs had issues with screendoor, but now with higher resolutions, it is not really a problem anymore.

Any darker color will be better than a light color.. projectors will light up a room, and any light that makes its way back onto the screen will lower your contrast and perceived brightness. Dark colors and flat paint help reduce ambient light from reflecting back, and also give you a sense of higher contrast when surrounding the screen.
Like I said before, most people won't be too fond of flat gray or black, so other colors, even in low gloss forms, are totally acceptable. Darker shades of red, blue, green are popular.
1080p projectors are still quite expensive, but 720p versions are now very affordable. You will not kick yourself when you're sitting in front of a 120" 720p projection.. trust me.

Reviving this, Costco has a special on this Panasonic projector. My uncle has it, it looks great. My dad will probably get this one or something similar in a few months. Anyone else looking for a projector for a decent price, perhaps this is the one for you?

I have an older version of that one; we enjoy it for 'movie nights' with the nieces & nephews and drunken video game nights with the friends! We don't have a room for just watching videos so we got the pull up type of screen, it folds away nice...works for us.
I notice a lot of issues with almost any projector under 10K but my degree and background is in video...none of our friends or my wife can see any difference between the flat screen and the projector (maybe their just being nice to me?).
Either way, its always fun to bring it out...but it has to be dark and the room we use it in has lots of windows so we always have to wait for nighttime. I'm going to get an overhead mount with a quick release for using it at night by the pool...going to be a fun summer!!
One other note, mine (and I'm sure that one does) has an option to use 1/2 power for the bulb, if your using it in a dark room test that option out...it will double your bulb life, we still have over 2200 hours left and use it quite a bit during the winter when it gets darker earlier.
