Default Need some advice on buying a new TV

I would like to know from those of you that keep up with TV trends what TV's I should consider in the $1000 to $1500. I usually only watch sporting events, the news and DVDs. Are there any safe web sites I should order from? Or should I just purchase one from a retailer and if so where.

Thanks,
Mario

if you want to have the tv for a while, dont get a plasma. Plasmas only live 4-8 years. Make sure your tv is hdtv ready, as normal tv is being phased out slowly.

Cyrus, not true about plasmas.

The latest ones are rated at 60000 hours to half-brightness. That's over 6.5 years if you left it on 24 hours a day and 32 year at 5 hours per day.

Get a Sony! For $1000 to $1500 Plasma is out of the question. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP....com_navbar_el_t

New models are starting to come out.

One concern about ordering a TV online is the huge shipping cost. Another concern is that it may be damaged in transit. Finally, it really helps to see how crisp (or not) the TV is in real life. The price range you're looking at should have excellent clarity, but it still can't hurt to look!

For that price you could buy a Toshiba HDTV (Toshiba is on par right now as far as quality goes with Sony.) that has a crisper picture (IMO) than the Sony TV's. Keep in mind i'm talking about flat SCREEN TV's, not the ones you hang on the wall.

If you bought teh Toshiba, you would also have anough moeny elft over to buy some of the things you need to go with an HDTV (Component Video Cables) and if you're not using a digital signal (satellite or digital cable) then you're going to want a power center that filters video.

Mitsibushi makes the best rear projection TV's. I'd suggest looking at the Samsung DLP TV's.

Samsung DLP projection tv all the way.
I would order from onecall.com
I have ordered two big screen rear projection tv's from them (one samsung DLP tv). Both that i had were way way under the price of anyone else on the net and they are authorized retailers and you won't get screwed on the warranty. I've dumped well over 10,000 dollars in audio and video equipment there and I highly reccommend them! They ship via truck freight and usually if you give the driver a little tip they will help you haul the thing right to where you want it set up in your living room. The DLP tv's aren't bad though... 86lbs for a 50 inch model. My old rear projection tv weighed close to 300lbs.

A DLP is nowhere near his price-range, however it WILL provide the best picture available right now.
