Default Need some help from the Aussies

Hey guys, I got posed these questions by an Australian friend of mine in preparation for his Australia Day party next weekend. Can y'all help me out?

1. What colour is the Australian 20 dollar bill?

2. Who is Steve Waugh and what is he doing when he dons his "baggy green"?

3. What does the phrase "fair suck of the sav!" mean?

4. What does the word "GIRT" mean, and why do Australians care?

5. What would I mean if I was to say to you - "Don't be a nong, duck round to my place for a schooner or two. There'll be plenty of tucker to shove in your mullet. We'll have a ball tearer! Bob's your Uncle!."

Bob's your Uncle? WTF?

Help!

2. http://www.google.com/search?q=steve+waugh
3. http://www.google.com/search?q=\"fair+suck...k+of+the+sav!\"
4. http://www.google.com/search?q=GIRT+australia
5. http://www.google.com/search?q=slang+australia

search engines are very handy.

Red

Going out to play cricket for Australia

3. What does the phrase "fair suck of the sav!" mean?
It means "let's be fair" ... "treat me with equality" ... "give me a break"

4. What does the word "GIRT" mean, and why do Australians care?
A lightweight structural steel member. We don't care.

5. What would I mean if I was to say to you - "Don't be a nong, duck round to my place for a schooner or two. There'll be plenty of tucker to shove in your mullet. We'll have a ball tearer! Bob's your Uncle!."
You would be crazy not to drop around. I've got lots of food. We'll have a great time. Everything is ok.

Bob's your Uncle? WTF?
When an Aussie finds or offers a solution he often says "Bob's your Uncle". It's sometimes used to emphasise how easy or simple it was to achieve something or a way of saying "all done".

More often than not he says "Bob's your Aunty"

Anyway .. gotta go have a butcher's hook at something for the trouble and strife now.

Thanks Muz, you are the man. Though I'm shocked you didn't realize the word "girt" was in your National Anthem!

And it seems like Aussies have an inordinate number of slang phrases that just make no sense at all (e.g. Bob's your Uncle/Aunty). Do we Americans do stuff like that that just confuses the hell out of you fellas down under? I'm guessing probably so...

Muz! "Our home is girt by sea". You're thinking of a girder. "Girt" means "surrounded by" and we care because it's a line of our national anthem!
