Negotiating Realtor fees?
mmm-def, are you looking to sell your current place and buy a new place to replace the old one? If so, consider using the same agent for both. It is likely they would be willing to give you a deal for handling both deals.
I would absolutely negotiate with a realtor, but don't limit yourself to their price. The price negotiation should be simple. They know what their lowest price, and you should know your highest. Simple. Don't forget that you have to work with this person, so take some time to figure out if you can work with him/her and if they understand the areas you are weak in. Are they going to miss something that will cost you later? That will dwarf the realtor fee.
My realtor takes 1% off the standard 6% fees. I liked him and he made me comfortable with the process. He taught me a lot of things to look out for, and I ended up going $150k up market from where I started. It worked out for both of us.

as long as it's not under the table, its completely legal and you might end up saving a good chunk of change- many realtors are reluctant to do it because it bites into their marketing fees they have to pay
