Netflix
Any of you get an email today saying that Netflix is raising the prices on Blu-rentals $1 a month. Not a huge deal, but it pisses me off that their reasoning is "As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies."

DVD's are going to be a thing of the past down the road. Ill wait for blue ray to drop down alot in price.
soon it will all be on harddrives or on demand.
I don't see what the big deal is. It's $1/month. Blu-rays I see at the store are usually about $10 more than a DVD. It only makes sense they would try to recoup some of this cost from the people that actually rent blu-ray discs.
I'm sure downloads will eventually replace blu-ray, but they have a long ways to go to even get close to the quality of BR. The crappy, super-compressed 720P downloads with plain dolby digital sound aren't even close to blu-ray quality for the real enthusiasts.

We won't see equal quality (to blu ray) on-demand or downloadable movies of any type for a long time.. BD movies are 20+GB with a single audio track and no menus or extras..
Why couldn't they start zooming a 20GB movie through to my TV? All they would have to do is have 2 minutes of some video for startup to buffer enough that I can watch my movie without fear of choppiness. Then play away!

Some people like the special features and extras, except for one or two blooper reels, I have never wathced any special features.
But I am looking forward to late fall when Netflicks goes on Xbox live. Download brand new movies, many in HD right through the Xbox. No waiting.
I have downloaded a few movies from Xbox live in the past and after a little buffering it works great but the choices are slim. The full Netflicks library would be awesome.
