a hub/switch(either)... or go wireless

Yeah, get a longer cable, shouldn't be too much money.

A hub/switch would probably be the more expensive solution, especially if you only have one computer.

Wireless is nice, I couldn't live w/o it at home with Road Runner and my laptop.

Don't buy cables at BestBuy, CompUSA, or whoever else in a straight brick & mortar store. They are a complete and utter ripoff for the average home user.

What you need is a $1 RJ45 female to RJ45 female coupler. We use them at work all the time. Not recommended to use too many of these (e.g. more than one) in one one string of cables, but it'll be fine for home use.

Try Ebay 100ft for $10 shipped. If you want a shorter one search ebay for cat5 cable and you will get plent of hits.

Good luck,
Mark

Home Depot has Cat5 as cheap as I've seen it in a brick & mortar. Other option is to move something closer. No magical way to get a cable that is too short to reach. If you buy a coupler, you still need another cable, might as well get the right size the first time, anyway. $60 for a cable is a rip-off, I can't see any length being that expensive, 500 ft. at home depot is only $40.

For that much money, you could have ordered a whole kit to make the exact length you need, and still had money left over for a decent dinner. http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invti...d=CAT5E-1000-SK
