Default New California Driving Regulations -

New Regulations in the California Department of Motor Vehicle's 2007 Handbook:

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A confident California driver avoids using them.

2. Under no circumstance should you maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, because the space will be filled in by somebody else, putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. The faster you drive through a red light, the less chance you have of getting hit.

4. WARNING! Never come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will result in your being rear-ended.

5. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork. With no insurance, the other operator probably has nothing to lose.

6. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a vigorous, foot massage as the brake pedal violently pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to strengthen your leg muscles.

7. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to prepare other drivers entering the highway.

8. Speed limits are arbitrary figures; given only as a suggestion and are not enforceable in California during rush hour.

9. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that another driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

10. Always brake and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire. This is seen as a sign of respect for the victim.

11. Learn to swerve abruptly without signaling. California is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to the Department of Transportation, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them alert.

12. It is tradition in California to honk your horn at cars in front of you that do not move three milliseconds after the light turns green.

13. To avoid injury in the event of a collision or rollover, it is important to exit your vehicle thru the windshield right away. Wearing your seat belt will only impede your hi-velocity escape from danger.

14. Remember that the goal of every California driver is to get ahead of the pack by whatever means necessary.

15. In California, 'flipping the bird' is considered a polite salute. This gesture should always be returned.

all so true in Californica

add

16. Drive in the left lane and no matter what do not leave it, even if there is no car in the 4 lanes to your right and there is a car approaching you from behind at a high rate of speed.

17. If you need to make a right turn and there is a car on the street approaching you, turn into the land and proceed to accelrate as if your car has 2 hp. It's all the better if that approaching car is the only one and would have passed you in 1 second and yielded an empty lane.

18. When in a parking lot, if someone is waiting for your to get out of your spot, be sure to make a phone call, pick your nose, adjust your makeup before pulling out.

19. If you drive a full sized pickup truck, be sure to drive it as fast as you can and pass sports cars at will.

21. If you drive a large SUV and end up at a red light with a sports car, make sure you gun it (even with your 6 year old son and his friends in the back) when it turns green so as to prove something about yourself...I don't know what it is, but it's something.

22. When you purposefully/accidentally cause another driver to take evasive measures due to your excellent race car driver derived skills on the road, make sure you only look straight ahead by creating an invisible wall around you. This ensures that your driving is superior. By responding to the frustrated driver's harangue, you're only acknowledging that he too has skills.

23. It is California law, that any empty stretch of paved road is considered a lane, and is available for your own personal use. It does not matter if this "lane" is generally reserved for bikes, stranded motorists, exiting, etc. If you can use it to go straight and get ahead, you should.

24. California is an eco-friendly state. Please do your part to curb excess fuel useage by following the car in front of you as closely as possible, thereby drafting in their wake and increasing your mileage.

25. The higher your headlights are, the further down the road you can see. Do not bother to align them correctly, unless of course, they are too low. If they are set at the factory levels, they are too low, and should be aimed higher as soon as possible.

26. During rain showers, increasing your speed will allow you to show everyone that you are a superior driver as you pass other cars as if they were standing still.
