Default New Career

so here's my story.

Ive recently joined the USAF. Im a 4B0x1 Bioenvironmental Engineering.
deal with lots of OSHA regulations, work place safety, water quality, air quality, etc.. I get to spend few days to visit particular shop each month, and work on their shop survey for the rest of the month.

I had no idea what to expect from the military, but I felt that i was way over due for a big change (im 28, and i been in photo industry for the past 11 years).
I loved my work, but wanted to try out something ridiculously new, and maybe something would offer a different life style as well. which it did.
from all day, all year long making people smile, creating images and working with colors to now something quite ... serious and lots of sitting down, paperworks.

I signed up for 4yrs, and in case wanna get out after, im trying to get a BS in either Environmental or Occupational Safety and Health before my enlistment ends. Since being in this career field already gives me a bit of a head start and plus the experience i'd have, I decided to pursue a BS in either program.

ive heard the opportunities from the people i work with, but I was hoping to hear some real time stories or advices from someone outside.

i'd appreciate your input on this.

Former pilot. Now he's involved in hazardous waste assessment, clean-up, and so on.

PM him.

So, where's my PM? I own and operate an environmental services firm. (See my sig.) I've worked with many environmental inspectors/regulators. Some really enjoy and are fulfilled by what they do, some don't/aren't. If I were you, I'd get a degree in a specific science, such as geology or chemistry, or in environmental science. There are more career opportunities in the private sector. Take advantage of all the opportunities you can find in the Air Force, including them paying for your college education. If you have a specific college and/or AF program in mind, I can better advise you.

Yeah, Matt's a good guy. He also has good stories about equatorial satellite launching missions.

My mom has worked for Federal OSHA for about 25 years. She loves her job and travels around the world inspecting military bases.

You have to be prepared to be hated by everyone you visit. My mom is used to everyone she deals with being afraid of her.

im about to registering at columbia southern university in AL, and they offer both environmental management and occupational health and safety online. how would it differ of your working environment between env. management and science?

The Raptor, if you don't mind me asking, how did you go from a pilot to an environmentalist? what are your expectations and what do you seek from possible candidates?
i assume you get to travel quite often with this job?
and yes sir, im trying my best to take full advantage of AFs educational benefits.

fact that i never really went to school after high school,
it's a late start for me but im going all in from here and now on.

ImportSport, we also get that kind of impressions as a BE tech, but we insure to let them know that we are there for them, not to shut them down.
