nvidia and ati can barely make any NV40's or R420's in their high speed grades NOW (proof: $200+ over msrp).

They have track records of not meeting demand and "paper launching"

Regardless, those 2 chips are not new; they are speed bumps of the current crop of cards (hehe, Nvidia's last one was a 5% bump fyi).

1. ANNOUNCED in nov-dec, SHIPS probably February in any quantity
2. ANNOUNCED in dec, SHIPS in February in any quantity.

Intel is just as bad now, too. They announce a chip and can't put any out in 4 months or more

AMD bucks the trend, every product they have launched recently has been available for purchase on the launch date

nvidia and ati had paper launching for all their cards since the geforce and the radeon line came into play.

I got a Evga limited edition 256MB 6800 for $330 shipped at newegg. The card shipped with a 16 pipe core (default is 12) and 1.1Ghz DDR3. It's a 6800GT at 6800 prices
