Default New Orleans boom in architectural experimentation

short version:
http://www.theatlantic.com/slideshows/neworleans/

“Four years after Katrina,” writes Wayne Curtis in the November 2009 Atlantic, “the rebuilding of New Orleans is not proceeding the way anyone envisioned, nor with the expected cast of characters.” In the narrative of the city’s architectural rebirth, the unlikely leading man is movie star Brad Pitt who, for the past several years, has been working with nonprofits and architects to build cutting-edge green houses. Ultimately, Pitt hopes to fill the decimated Ninth Ward with homes by the likes of Thom Mayne and Frank Gehry. From the looks of these already-completed projects, his dream is off to a promising start.

That was a pretty interesting read.

Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of the whole green movement, mostly because of the holier-than-thou proponents. I also hate what they're doing to our cars. But when it comes to architecture and home decor and all that, I think most of it is pretty awesome.

Although that may only be because I love the modern look, and you cannot be modern today without also being green.

Why did the house over carport house lose 6 feet from rendering to completion? They must really trust the levees....or like bicycles.

Interesting read, thanks for sharing. I'll have to finish the rest when I get home.
