Hi fellow nerds,

I thought some of you might be interested in the new server I'm putting together. First some background...

The current S2000Online server is a leased Cobalt RaQ 3i with 256MB RAM and 10GB hard disk. Not terribly impressive but has done the job up to now. Not bad for a 350Mhz AMD K6!

However, the time has come to move up to a platform that will manage the load of the current usage and future. Sometime at the end of March, we will switch to a new co-located server instead.

The new server is a 2U unit as shown in the pic below

It has 6 hotswappable drive bays loaded with 4 IBM 75GXP 20GB ATA/100 drives. Controlling them is a 3ware 6400 IDE RAID controller. The 4 drives are arranged in a RAID5 yielding 60GB of usable space. Powering the system are 2 Pentium III 866Mhz CPUs and 1GB of PC133 SDRAM.

To give you some comparison of speed, the new server is 7 times faster than the current one in CPU alone.

Just in case you are curious...

Well done! Sounds like things are set. Having a server to match the car is comforting - Fast and Strong.

If I was a geek, I would say that is pretty cool! Dual 866's will fly!
