Hepatitus C is a blood borne disease. You could have it from a transfusion if you had one 8-10 years ago. They weren't able to screen for it. You also get it from inhaling drugs like cocaine through your nose. It is also spread through IV drug use, when you share needles. Getting tattoos is another method of passing it, if the parlor doesn't follow strict guide lines.

It will cause cirrhosis of the liver, and can lead to liver cancer. A lot of Vietnam vets came home with it. It is called the "Silent Killer." You can walk around with it for 20-30 years and not know you have it, then all of a sudden something happens and it is too late for some of the more aggressive treatments. I have Hep C and have had it for approximately 30 years. I could have gotten it at several accidents where I was giving first aid while they were waiting for an ambulance. I may have had cuts on my hands and blood to blood transfer may have occured. I also shared a needle ONCE with a couple of close friends, that may have been the source. I also snorted a lot of Coke too.

On the outside I appear healthy, but in fact I am dying from it just don't know when. If I get lucky and am able to get a liver transplant that will extend my life by who knows how much. The only problem is my blood type. I am part of a 4% blood group AB positive. This is how I pay for the sins of my youth.
