I'm not sure how many of you follow the NFL, but Michael Strahan of the NY Giants was one sack away from the single season record of sacks in one year for any player. The Giants were playing Green Bay and Green Bay had them easily beat. Strahan hadn't had a sack the whole game and he was on the sidelines watching as his record slipped through his fingers. Green Bay got the ball back but all they had to do was run it to run out the clock, so Strahan didn't have much of a chance. But, Brett Favre the QB for Green Bay ran a play action pass and ran a boot leg to the right side, which was Strahan's side, and basically ran into Strahan to give him the record breaking sack. It was obvious that Favre did this on purpose and this was even more evident when the replay showed Favre approaching Strahan before the play, whispering something to him.

I think this is just awsome. Michael Strahan is an amazing football player and an even better person. He deserved that more than anything and I think this just shows what kind of guy Brett Favre is. I am not a Green Bay fan and I was hoping that the Giants would win, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Seeing that made me realize why I love football so much and sent a tingle up my spine.
Congrats Michael Strahan, you deserve it.

Sucks for the guy who held the record if he's still around. To see it bested by a 'freebee' sack would be pretty irritating.

You don't "deserve" a record. You earn it. No matter how you slice it, a cheap sack like that cheapens this record. Either you get so many sacks in 16 games or you don't. This guy wouldn't have if Favre hadn't given it to him.

This reminds me of that UConn women's basketball player several years ago who broke her foot one basket shy of being the highest scorer at UConn ever. Her coach worked out a deal that if the other team would let her score an uncontested layup, they would return the favor. So he puts in this girl in a cast and she waits under the basket for the pass, scores, and is then removed from the game. Yeah, she has the record and she most likely would have gotten it on her own if she hadn't broke her foot since she had several games left and most definitely would have gotten at least one basket, but it still cheapened it. Today's record was even worse because he wasn't hurt and definitely wasn't going to earn it on his own.

I don't have anything against Strahan or really care about this record. I don't really follow the NFL that much. I just hate seeing crap like this go on. It's too bad for him that he couldn't earn it because I'm sure in his heart this record is hollow compared to one you totally earn.

Ok, Ok, Ok...I do agree with you guys somewhat. I guess it just touched me, since I played 8 years of football. But, you do have a good point.

Trust me, if the record was held by Reggie White or LT, then Favre would've just knelt. The fact of the matter is Mark Gastoneau (sp?) isn't the most likable guy in NFL history.

I don't think it cheapens it. Strahan is the man, period.
