Default No More Maine Coon Thread Killas

So I don't end up hijacking each post that includes a "?" about my babies, here is some info for the cat lovers among us.

Male "Lynx" turned 3 yrs old on Dec 13.
Still a baby by Coon standards and won't reach full maturity until 4 or 5-years-old. Currently weighs 23-lbs and has NO fat...it's all muscle, trust me. Picking him up is like picking up a Thanksgiving Turkey...all you feel is meat.

My female Maine Coon, named "Koa" for my favorite guitar wood exclusively Hawaiian, was born on Dec 25 three years ago and while she is the same age as her "brother," obviously she's a butterfly compared to the little lion. Different breeders so technically of course, they are not related but my girl and I refer to them as such. Lynx's breeder specializes in large males so I drove to New Hampshire and dragged that kitten off his father's back (like most male coons, he's a born mischief maker and loves to play fight).
Koa weighs 11-lbs which is normal for a female cat of her age and probably won't go much beyond that. Lynx should probably round out in the upper 20's. He's very, very tall though and can snatch food off the kitchen counter which rests just over three feet high.
We got them both "fixed" because I didn't want to wake up to some kitten Caligua six months after bringing them home. By doing so with the males, that tends to make them larger-bodied than males that still have their "goods." The male absolutely, positively has to accompany EVERYONE into the bathroom for shower time because he is possessed by the sound of water and if one is not careful, will jump in the shower. They both drink from the bathroom faucet and despite numerous attempts to get them to use their running water fountain, they do so at their own leisure.
So...hopefully I didn't bore anyone but these are my babies and without them, life wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
Watching these two beat the crap out of each other is hysterical. They love to play fight and will stand on their hind legs like black bears and swat at each other with those huge paws. Who needs Broadway with that kind of entertainment?

How's this for a tail?

And finally...one Lazy Boy, one Maine Coon.

Awesome pics! Keep 'em coming. Let's make this the official "my cat" thread. For those who have been e-mailing me about Coons, here is a great place to find breeders in your area. Expect to pay between $400-$1,000 for a pure bred Maine Coon kitten. Bear in mind they retain their kitten-ish playful nature WAY beyond most other breeds. Your Coon could be nine years old and run around the house like a nine-month old. They are addicted to water (unlike other breeds) and most of the time, are NOT lap cats (thank God, they weigh too much....substitute a bowling ball instead). However, in most cases, they will simply follow you from room to room and sit close by, keeping their eyes on you at all times. The females (and males as well to a smaller degree) are INCREDIBLE mousers. If it moves, it dies. Simple as that. Few cats can hunt like Coons. My female can snatch houseflies out of mid-air and did so many times this summer until they finally quit visiting. I had a male Coon years ago as a teen that would bring me dead rabbits it ran down...that marble-monster would drag his "kills" to the front door to brag. Used to drive my Mom crazy...she never knew what was going to be on the other side of that door.

Russ, many thanks for the PM.

I have wanted a Maine Coon Cat for so long. I have been waiting because I have yet to find a house, you know, small house with a huge garage.

I have read so much about this breed I know it is the cat for me. Once I get a real good kitten I plan to go to the local animal shelter and pick up another kitten so My Maine has a playmate to help pass the days when I'm at work. The price you quoted for a good kitten is absolutely accurate, thus I figure one pure breed in the house is enough, because the other one lives in the garage and came in Spa yellow.

OK, any more great pics?

And Mindcore, nice pic of Bailey
