"No pay, no spray"
Yay! The thread is back.
My view is still the same, that those firemen were socially and morally irresponsible, regardless of unpaid dues. Save the home, pets, etc. first, then collect later. Even the president of a FIREFIGHTER ASSOCIATION agrees with that.
Another example: let's just say that home belonged to an old lady (or old immigrant lady) who didn't pay because she didn't know any better. Would they have stood by idly and let her home and pets burn to the ground because she wasn't "covered" by the fee? And if she was old, maybe she could've been trapped inside too and they wouldn't come to put the fire out.
In the end, it's morally and socially irresponsible. That's not a part of being a firefighter and their code of ethics. I hold firefighters to a higher moral ground than cops.
P.S. Before anyone says anything about a potential danger/injury to the firefighters, it's a part of being a firefighter. They've become firefighters knowing fully well the dangers associated with battling fires and rescuing people. It's the territory that goes with the job, and that's why most people hold firefighters to a higher moral ground than other professions.
