external hd using USB...if you want it to run as fast as possible, absolutely not a good idea. will you necessarily notice a difference? map load times definitely... other stuff, dunno. probably a little bit.

if you're concerned about performance and playing heavy graphics and memory intensive games... why would you not just shell out for a decent SATA hd? they aren't that expensive these days ya know.

Do you know for sure that the ones with SATA connection won't have any performance penalty?

i meant like.. uh.. this.

if you don't have space in your current box to add a 2nd drive, back everything up and swap to a new one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136284

or you can always try playing your games off your external and see how bad it is.

My mother board spec:

Asus P6T Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX Mainboard Triple-Channel DDR3/1600 SATA RAID w/ eSATA,GbLAN,USB2.0,IEEE1394a,&7.1Audio

I think it does support it.

Ok so your best bet would be to get an eSATA enclosure and a SATA drive if you really wanna run games off an external. That should work flawlessly.
