Default Now here is somthing you don't often find on a highway....

I was driving from Denver to St Louis this past Sunday (in the S2000, great highway cruiser if not a bit too loud) when I came upon this just outside of Salina Kansas...

Nice. I've driven from San Antonio to St. Louis and back a number of times. I've seen a few odd things on the highways too. The weirdest were an airplane and a helicopter, although the airplane was nothing like that. It was a smaller commuter plane.

The coolest thing I've seen on the freeway is a convoy of Army trucks. Of course, there were the mandatory 5T's and HMMV's, but the badass part were these humongous big rigs towing a bunch of tracked vehicles. Aside from the M113s and M60s (and a Linebacker!), there was this one rig hauling three M1A1 Abrams on a flatbed! The damn big rig (engine) had 4 dually drive axles, each with tires about 4 feet in diameter! The trailer itself had no less than 6 axles with tires of comparable size.

Here's what you're talking about:

M1070. The cab seats 5 - comfortably - which allows the tank crew to ride inside. It also has a over-pressure system to allow it to operate in a biological / chemical environment.

BTW, I was in a transportation unit that had a company of these and I can assure you that one (not 3) 70 ton tank is all they can haul. You won't find a bigger highway-capable truck because even the truck by itself requires special road clearance due to the weight and size.

There are 40 tires on that trailer (two rows on the inside that you can't see)
