Now Joined The Unemployeed
Come into work early on Thursday for an importat team meeting for my project on an off site location. by the time i get to my desk at work we all received emails saying that 200 people would be laid off today. as it turns out i have an eye doctors appointment and when i come back everyone is standing around my desk looking really sad so i knew what was up. i check my voicemail and my boss wants to see me. i go to her office and sure enough i was laid off...one months severence and cobra benefits plus set up with a placement agency....kinda good kinda bad...i hate to not be working but this gives me a chance to land a better job for more money. so back into the job pool for me...let's see what hotjobs has lying around =)
Hi
Sorry to hear about that.
Just 2 weeks ago I had to help ORGANIZE a layoff. That sucks more than being layed off. Actually, I wish I would have been layed off because I had to lay off some of my friends (1 of them was the guy who got me into the company) and of course not tell them in advance. My company did compensate everybody nicely though, so no one had any hard feelings. My friend even got 2 months compensation!!
On top of that, the next day after the layoffs (everyone is in a bad mood), one of the employees on my team turned out to be hacking into computers from our company systems!! I had to fire him and launch a full investigation .. Even worse is the amount of meetings I have been having with lawyers trying to determine our liabilities.. Our lawyers have determined that there are no 'good samaritan' laws concerning computer crime so we won't be contacting the companies effected. However I feel morally and ethically compelled to report them to the respective companies....man even though I am paid well my job sure sucks some times.

Swurvydel,
Don't feel bad. It happend to me in November also.
I was paid 1 month of severance pay, and I applied for unemployement also. I took a couple months "vacation".
So, in January I found a higher paying job with free covered parking!
Cheer up bud...you will get back on your feet. By the way...apply for unemployment ASAP...your tax dollars paid for it...minus well get some of it back.

Swurveydel,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune, I can certainly sympathize since I work @ Dell & am preparing for the worst. Our first 2 rounds cleared mostly dead weight IMO, but it looks like we'll be cutting into bone for the cuts announced today. I think (hope) I'll be OK, but just being in this environment is not a great attitude booster (it's certainly making me much more frugal w/ my $, though). Hope you land a better job real soon!

After a while I figured out that just emailing your resume isn't good enough. Especially if it is to a "recruiter@s2000online.com" or a "jobs@s2000online.com" address. Those resumes stack up real high from the printer and just get sent to the recycle bin. You gots to call them up and bug them.
