maybe you are missing the fact that the fish isn't killed prior to the removal of the filet. Most people consider it the very starting point of humane to kill the animal prior to cutting. The fact that these people see nothing wrong with filetting a fish while living, then tossing it back into the tank for the amusement of spectators is not very encouraging. Sorry, IMHO that is barbaric and inexcusable.

 

crazy. I've got a vid of a chef cutting up a live octopus in front of us and then serving it to us, but its not very entertaining. I pulled the camera out a few seconds too late, when most of the dramatic stuff ended.

Perhaps you should visit a slaughter house in the U.S. to see how cattles are killed. There's nothing humane about killing or hunting, ever! But I still assert that the Japanese culture is hyper and wacky; totally opposite of most other Asian cultures I've seen in person.

 

wow, thats a bold statement on Japanese culture. I could go on and on about how the japanese culture has alot more pros than cons compared to present day american lifestyle.

I still cannot understand killing for "fun" or sport, either. but eh whatever floats your boat....

I like to fish. Is that humane? I throw mine back though.... unless I catch a monster bass someday.....

 

I must look at things different cause I was brought up in hawaii. But like you said what ever floats ones boat.

 

Been to Japan twice...and that's my assertion. Japanese are wacky in a different way than Americans. Of course, I don't mean ALL, just some (or even many).

I had some live abalone, shrimp and scallop from there. Most of the other stuff he serves is very fresh as well. Not too far of a drive from Cerritos.
