Default Nursing home events - insulting or fun?

I saw on TV this a clip about a girl who spends a fair amount of time at the Nursing home...which is very nice of her.......

It had these poor old F'd up people playing little baby games and getting help throwing little bean bags and lots of clapping from the volenteers......

What do you guys think of that? 80 year olds being treated like 8 year olds.....

I think when I get to the point that I cannot function I would rather just be dead than be a drooling half vegatable that someone has to fling my frail arm with a beanbag in it then give me some clapping even though I didn't really do anything other than shit myself....Yea....he shit himself again.... good job....

Maybe any attention is better than nothing?

Well, just imagine being trapped in a body and not being able to move about the way you used to. These old folks were war heroes, mothers, fathers, sports players, construction workers etc... And now they can't even clean themselves up. It has to be heart breaking to realize how bad you have gotten. Add in to that not having much memory and probably not recognizing your own children anymore.

I would rather be dead than be at that stage too, but there are people that have to live through it for a long time. I am glad to see that there are people who take the time to show them attention. These are people and we will all be in their shoes at some point. I hope that if I don't give up the ghost before getting real bad, there is someone to coddle me rather than dump me in a bed and forget about me.

It can happen at any time.. My grandmother whose 79 just had a massive stroke. She was always active, always dressed well (matching shoes, belt, purse) all that crap. Not just a blob of a person, she was heathly and took care of herself! She didnt just sit and watch TV all day growing a longer beard and mustache.

2 months ago she had a massive stroke when my grandfather found her on the floor. Now she cant speak, cant walk, cant move the left side of her body.

The only thing keeping her alive is a feeding tube and thats cause my grandfather is selfish. He refused to pay for med ins. so hes paying 78,000 a year to have her in a home.

For 6500 a month you get!...

- 1 black eye in the first two weeks that your there and NOONE knows how it happened!
- 2 X Rays that show spots on your lung but are never forwarded to your doctor! Noone finds out until your son who IS a doctor flies in from TX, looks at your file, discovers these and now we find out its cancer that couldve been stopped!
- Daily death scares - Even though you have a sign above your head that clearly states that you are unable to swallow fluids, let alone solids, your daughter will walk into the room just in time to catch the nurse trying to shove ham sandwich down your throat! How exciting! This will happen multiple times throughout your stay here.

Lawsuit??

Old Folks homes are a ****ing joke. People there mind as well stay for free for the POS care they get.

My grandma doesnt want to interact with anyone else there. No games, nothing. BTW - By interact I mean that when you walk in the front door of the home they have like 10 old people who cant hold their heads up sitting in wheel chairs formed in a half crest facing the front door with a 10 inch TV on a 3 legged stool for them all to "watch". Its a freakish site when you walk in the door. It must be a humiliating experience for those poor people. Theyre being put out on display or something..

I say just leave them alone. I mean maybe sit in the room with them talk to them, push them around outside in a wheelchair or something but playing little toddler games with them?? Comeon people. They have more experience in life than anyone here and even though they dont know whats going on you shouldnt confuse them even more by playing crazy kids games with them!

^ that sounds like hell.

I visited an old friend (he died at age 73 about 5 years ago) in a "blaa" nursing home.... his roomate had to take a shit but the "assistant" basically said to do it in his pants. I can still hear her voice...."Oh Mr. Harvey you have something on for that"..... All she had to do was lead him into the bathroom, but... **** that...let the next person clean up his shit filled asscrack...

Pretty sad.

I understand its a terrible job but damn, if you dont like it work somewhere else! They are fully aware of what theyll be doing before they sign up!

I hope the workers like that have to sit in their own shit all day until someone who cares finds it!

Between this, executive overcompensation, and Paris Hilton's CD, I truly weep for our society.

Did you ever see the video of Enrique Iglesias practicing for some commercial or something. His real voice is HORRIBLE!
