Nick - I love bassets (see my earlier post a few months ago). Get ready for a little rambunctiousness and lots of smellyness (for those that don't know, bassets have a musky odor). carpet fresh works well (both the foam non vacuuming kind and the vacuuming kind)
You should clean out his ears at least weekly. You can use a Q-tip. Bassets tend to develop ear infections easily if you don't.
And if possible, have them groomed monthly (I think petco cost me like $20/month I asked for hypo-allergenic stuff and no perfume too).
These pics were taken with a webcam, so they're not great. I miss her a lot I was fostering her for the Basset Hound Rescue League and she was a handful especially with me living by myself and she wasn't exactly house trained and had some bladder issues. Luckily, the people who adopted her had a horse farm and lots of room (I live in an apartment). If I wouldn't have gotten rid of her, I never would have gotten my S and I probably would have bought a house a lot quicker.
Evan and Ron, My girlfriend thanks you for the pics - she is hooked on the Basset thing like I am with my JTR's. Mojo is growing on me and that is saying alot because I was a die hard fan of the Jack Russel, He is such a comedian it's hard to be mad at him when he barks - he just wants to have fun 24 - 7.
Evan, my girlfriend wants me to say that it is awesome that you foster animals, we have done that in the past and more people need to do it as well and Ron, apparently your basset reminds her of Flash from the Dukes of Hazard! Thanks again!

I'll scan in the photos I have of Katie, the Basset I fostered. Those are more comical. They really are comedians. Fostering is really tough on the soul though. I had a hard time giving her up and still think I made the wrong decision sometimes; but hey, a horsefarm! I wanted those people to adopt me too.
