Default Official Pink Floyd thread

I've been listening to pink floyd since high school. Within these past few days my perspective on their lyrics have changed alot. Until now I've always though of them as just cool poems(for lack of better terms). Now I veiw them as talking about the realistic aspects of life.

I thought maybe I would start a thread to talk about lyrics or just to talk about how great they are.

Been a fan since 87. They kick ass but your not going to feel in a happy go lucky mood after listening to them. Waters pulled them down I think Gilmore is great.

I always liked 'em. Back in HS (84 - 88), when I was first learning to play bass, I loved them because thier bass lines are pretty easy. I would put on "The Wall" or "Dark Side Of The Moon" and play along to the whole side (yes, you know, the whole side of the record, before I flipped it over).

It was great practice.

one of my very favorite albums, back when I was a HUGE Pink Floyd fan (late HS to early college). the music is just a bit too dark for me these days, but I still love many of their songs. their last album wasn't nearly as good, IMO.

I've listened to them for the past 6 years and have never really done any research on them. It seems in many of the songs that hes talking about nazis and family member he lost during WW2. Is this the case?

I have been a big fan of theirs since around 1975. Each one of their albums has a different theme and the lyrics usually tie to the theme of the album.

The lyrics are many times very true to life, however, even according to roger waters, some of the lyrics happen to fit the empty void they had while writing the song.

Anyways, Dark Side of the Moon is still in the top 100 selling albums of all time - if you don't own it, I would suggest it to anyone of any age group. It is one of those rare collections of songs that will be relevant for many more years to come.

I think I saw the lunatic in the grass on the 405 today.

if i logged all the hours of each band I have spent time listening to Pink Floyd is probably 50% of those hours. I'm kindof an eccentric audiophile so i spend quite a bit of time in front of my hi-fi rig just listening to cds, sacds, dvd-a, and LP's.

My favorite would have to be Dark Side of Moon Dolby 5.1 SACD. The wacky surround effect is neat but it makes already awesome radio staples (Time, Money, U&T) sound so real. Money's lyrics are so true. Sometimes I break out DSoM on vinyl to re-live it in all of it's analog glory.

Astronomy Domine, live in concert at Camp Randall Stadium, summer of 1994, was one of the biggest rush's I've ever gotten. I think there was over 60,000 screaming fans totally suprised to hear such a relic as that as the opening piece.

Comfortably Numb on Delicate Sound of Thunder is most definitely David Gilmour's shining hour. Yeah Tim Renwick (tour guitarist) played alot of the non-solo guitar on DST and Pulse but Dave truly has a signature sound just like Stevie and Eric. On DST, you can really differentiate.

How were they in concert. I would have loved to be there, or atleast alive to see that.
