i had this argument with someone (can't remember who) from the board a while back - i said Michael Schumacher is the highest paid athlete in the world, and he disagreed, saying people like Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan (in his days) were the highest paid athletes in the world.

after watching yesterday's Australian GP, my convictions were proven: all EIGHTY-FIVE MILLION of them.

yes, by far, and he has been ever since he signed on with Ferrari for some $25mil a year back in what was it.. 95? 96? I can't remember. It surpassed the Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods salaries BEFORE endorsements on a per-year basis. However, Sports Illustrated REFUSES to even put Formula 1 drivers in their "most paid" category. Sure, Jeff Gordon is in there, but not MS.

Michael Jordan played for a 1 year, $30 million contract the year the Bulls won their last championship in the 90's. That was the most he was ever paid for playing ball 1 year (if you break his other contracts down to single years).

MJ really made a killing with endorsements.
