I would have brought all the 6 packs up to the counter, showed him $5.99 and then left.

I remember one time this happened to me with altoids... $6 for one of them tins! I was like "you gotta be kidding!!!"

 

Well, here in NZ at least you can simply give the Commerce Commission a call and they'd be faced with a fine.

I know I wouldn't have paid. I woulda brought all the six packs up to the counter and showed him all the $5.99 tags (like you did) and if he still woulda refused to sell it for the marked price, I woulda just left. Let him put all the beers back.

 

I don't know about Texas, but a store could get in serious trouble for mis-pricing an item and charging more for it. I'd complain to the manager.
