Default Old People's aroma

Here's the deal, I'm 51 and my dad is 78. He's the best dad ever!!! So, what's the problem? He bathes before going to bed, but only washes his face in the morning. As the day goes by, his scent permeates his car(Honda Accord). The car now has that pungent dank smell of 'old person' in it. Personally, I believe that that odor could be alleviated if he would just shower in the morning and not have that danky crap attack the car as the day goes by. I love my dad with all my heart and would NEVER hurt his feelings, so I just suck it up and shower after riding in that thing. Last weekend, I offered to wash his car so I took the seats out and shampooed the interior. I Lysol-ed everything to boot. I spent over 6 hours cleaning that damn car! 4 hours alone was spent on the interior! As I age, I think I'll start showering at least 3 times a day. I already shower twice a day. In the summertime, I may even shower more often! I don't want to smell 'old'.

I take two baths a day, morning and just before bed. But as you get older you can't do that, you produce less sebum and sweat secretions, if you did this would cause dry skin, and promote skin breakdown, which is VERY bad in the elderly.
Due to this dry skin the elderly like lotions and creams, which most of the time SMELL HORRIBLE.

it's not good for old people to shower too many times, cause their skin gets dry and showering is washing away the oil they need. so...

are you sure it's not some sort of lotion or ointment that your dad is using that's causing the smell? older people sometimes will use ben-gay or icy hot or whatever to help their joints and stuff, giving off that "medicinal" smell ... i dunno, maybe give him some sort of deodorant to wear

Does he use any ointments or lotions? It could be those that you're smelling and not his B.O.

It's not just old people that leave smells. I have a friend the same age as me that leaves a funky smell in his car. It's just natural oil I guess..

this is my kind of thread.

I shower every morning without fail. I am a pretty greasy person (apparently one of my relatives was from Argentina and supposedly they are pretty greasy??)......

Most days I take another shower at lunch after working out....... then depending on what i do after work I may take another shower in the evening.....

I used to haul around a friend of ours who had one of those colostomy bags..... good gad that was gross..... why did someone invent those???

Friend of mine got shot in the belly, without the colostomy bag he would die. It's a livesaver.
