I really have to give the chinese some credit on the big gamble they made on taking on this olympiad. we will see how it all pans out in the end but...the opening ceremonies were absolutely stunning.

It was absolutely crazy. They said over 12000 people were involved in it. 2008 drummers in that crazy drum-light scene alone!

The Olympic opening ceremonies were incredible and definitely agree with the OP.

The Olympics are fun to watch and would be even more fun to be there.

Also, the people replying with 'who watches the olympics anymore', are just further proving the difference between the US and other countries. Most countries, all they have is the Olympics and the whole four years between that's what they look forward to. The US has individual sports affiliations for pretty much everything adn that's why a few of you aren't excited about the Olympics (it's just another sporting event). All you're really doing is proving why the Olympics should exist and do exist - to bring the World together. So when you ask "who watches the olympics anyways?"... The world does. Irony much?

yeah that whole movable type sequence with those boxes was ridiculous. i was saying to the wife..."those are neumatic or hydrolic and controlled by computer. Nobody could get the timing down that well to pull that of....then those bastards jumped out of them and i was like WTF! MATE!!!!

The whole thing was over the top and extremely well thought out. That movie director guy who put it all together should get some kind of national treasure award from the government.
