Angry one of the stupidest recent marketing fiascos

Jack Daniels lowers its proof

I don't even drink, and I cannot think that there is any marketing benefit for them to do this. Nor any worthwhile cost savings. It's just a level of corporate foolishness that is practically unheard of. They had to have come up with this cockamamy idea after a long night enjoying their product.

This reminds me of the New Coke fiasco, wherein Coca-Cola Beverage Corp. had to release Coke Classic, eventually phasing out New Coke and then renaming Coke Classic back to just plain Coca-Cola.

Hell, it may even be some kind of brilliant reverse-marketing ploy to draw attention to J-D... same vein as the New Coke experiment?... but I think it'll backfire as it probably is causing longtime J-D drinkers to imbibe other liquors.

Anyway, it's not like I really care. I don't drink J-D, and I hardly drink anything else really. Was just

I drink Jack, and can't tell the difference. They only lowered it by 3% ABV.

I'm actually kinda glad, because now I can drink more of it before getting snonkered.

The marketing strategy seems to be working fine. It has prompted you to be on a message board with over 25,000 readers publicizing their product. They should send you a free bottle for your efforts. Good job!

"I've switched to Maker's Mark since," he said. "I used to drink a bottle a week. Some of our board members drink three bottles a week. Once this gets out, it will be like the New Coke thing

Being from Kentucky, I wouldn't touch JD. It isn't very smooth. Too many good bourbons around here. Maybe some Knob Creek or Woodford Reserve

Actually, I was a sponsor of the Kentuck Bourbon festival a couple weeks ago.
