1. Only in the USA......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in the USA......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in the USA......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in the USA......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

5. Only in the USA......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

6. Only in the USA......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

7. Only in the USA......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

8. Only in the USA......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

9. Only in the USA......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

10. Only in the USA......do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Only in America??

I'm sure the Canadians, Mexicans, Guatemalans, Belizeans, Hondurans, El Salvadoreans, Nicaraguans, Costa Ricans, Panamanians, Colombians, Venezuelans etc., etc. (get the drift?) really appreciate you speaking for them.

How about "Only in the USA"?

No worries . I remember this well from when I travelled through Central and South America by motorbike. The locals would always ask me where I started out (L.A.) and when I said "America" they were quick to remind me it was "Estados Unidos" . It was a real eye-opener about how they resented people from the U.S. (in their eyes) hogging the right to be called Americans.

I did enjoy your piece though.

It's like the term "Yankee." In the middle-Atlantic states of the USA, a Yankee is from New England.

In The South of the USA, a Yankee is anybody from The North.

South of the US border, a Yankee is anybody from the USA.

Only in America (or US, UK, Mississippi, whatever) will the police give you a ticket for failure to put a nickel in a parking meter but refuse to make an accident report on a collision involving $3,000 damage if no one is injured.

Better than that, being given a ticket for putting a nickel in SOMEONE ELSE'S parking meter.
