only child=heaven
in a recent article in psychology today, a father wrote a letter to his unborn 2nd child, apologizing to him for his future existence. point being that having a sibling is mostly a burden, competing with them for attention and resources. being neglected at times by parents and being scared for life trying to prove themselves if they are not the favored one.
the writer grew up as an only child and said he had to lie to others saying that he was lonely. but in his head, he grinned and thought that being a single child is the apex of the western civilized world.
i know many of you will disagree.
why?

if I didn't grow up with my 3 younger siblings, I would probably be bored to death most of the time, and probably be driven to do dumb things like throw things into the swimming pool from the roof of the house
well i have 3 siblings. and i enjoyed it when my parents did not focus their attention on me. he must assume everyone has awesome parents. also, growing up, it must have sucked to just play video games by urself and suffer from only child syndrome. i know a guy who has a chronic case and me and my friends make fun of him all the time about it. i mean its no bad but its just certain mannerisms he has that are funny. for instance, he is always reluctant to share stuff and is more on the selfish side. also, he thinks he is the center of the universe. also, when ur young its just way more fun driving your parents crazy when you have company. older bros can provide good advice, underage consumption of alcohol. younger sis can provide hot friends. family dinners for an only child must be really boring too, jsut 3 people..? more the merrier.

that only works if she's not THAT much younger
I'm 26 and my sister is 20, and I'd still feel awkward hooking up with her friends
well if ur first gen, there is gonna be a lot of difference with ur parents. also forgot to mention that the older sibling breaks your parents in for the truly bad stuff. like on sunday mornings when u are hung over and probablly still drunk as all hell and ur mom wakes u up for church and finds out u have been drinking all night, u simply have to be like hey i am just following "his" example lol.
i dont ever feel awkward about hooking up with chicks if its legal and they are hot.

Lol.
Sounds like the article/letter was written by a typical "only child" who thinks the world revolves around them, and nothing could possibly be better than what he/she has.
All of the only children I've met have been funked up socially.
