Open letter to Ford and GM
I will never own another GM or Ford product.
I have owned Ford products all my life. I am now working for a Japanese company, Kokusai, that makes machines used in the automotive industry, including Ford and GM.
I purchased an S2000 because A) I get a better discount and B) I was tired of waiting on a Solstice.
I had the displeasure of servicing machines at both a Ford plant and a GM plant over the last 3 weeks. I was ridiculed, was the subject of extensive profanity, harrassed and even threatened with physical violence for driving a non-GM or a non-Ford car onto the parking lot. A lot of the harrassment at Ford came from the Management!!! Appearently these morons have forgotten the ownerships and partnerships that Ford and GM have with companies like Jaguar, Mazda, Land-Rover, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, SAAB, and Suzuki, not to mention that parts of these "American" cars are being built with Japanese equipment. I will no longer enter these plants, (Ford, Rawsonville and GM, Lordstown) and they now suffer because they have fewer factory Engineers to draw upon for potential issues. I will now not ever buy a Ford or GM product. When I drove my previous Ford to Honda, Isuzu, Nissan, and Subaru plants (not all in the U.S. either) I never had such an attitude from the employees or management.

That attitude (Ford and GM plant workers) is what has gotten them in the position that they are in.
They think that because it's built in America, Americans are going to buy it.
Instead of harrassing you, they should have pulled you off to the side and asked you what they can do to bring you back to buying a FORD/GM and/or why you switched from FORD/GM to Honda.
If they don't "Look at the Man in the Mirror" very soon, they will all be looking for jobs (likely with Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, etc.).

gotta love that union attitude
reminds me of this one time I saw this beat up old Chevy pickup that actually had one of those bumper stickers that said "LIVE BETTER / WORK UNION" and to top it off, there was a chick riding shotgun in an S-Class Benz pointing and laughing at it
I immediately joined her in doing the same

I can understand some of the attitude but I think it is taken way to far. We have an area in Minnesota called "The Iron Range" that has been for many years dependant on iron mining for all employment. The iron market crashed in the late 70's and early 80's and they had worse economic conditions up there than most of the country. Of course they were all union workers.
We had relatives from the area and if you went to visit, you did not drive a foriegn car or it might get completely trashed. No lie. You did not dare park it at a cafe because it might be bashed in by the 25% of union guys that were out of work up there. (If anyone has seen "North Country" you'll know the workers I am talking about) They did not even make cars.
That has not and will not preclude me from buying a domestic. For my next purchase I have 5 models in mind and one (though very unlikely) is a Chevy. The attitude of union workers though is downright goofy IMHO. Most got the idea that they would have $60 -$70k jobs for life, the same jobs for their kids, low work load, no competition or risk, and great pension and health care until they die. That is not the way the world works for most people, and proving to be a very false assumption.

Um yes it did. This does not happen NOW, but happed quite few times in the 70's and early eighties. Did you happen to notice all of the past tense verbage in the post you quoted????????
My uncle was a taconite worker and lived in Aurora MN, and told us NOT to bring up foriegn cars. And I never said it was "EVERYONE", and yes, it was for the reasons I claim. You notice I said "MIGHT GET TRASHED" In fact I used MIGHT twice. And then you respond "NOT EVERYONE LIKE YOU SAY" Read them both again. For god's sakes, pay attention to detail.
The union guys were pissed at anyone who was not buying american. They felt their jobs, and those of other union workers depended on it.
And if you knew anything about the Boise Cascade union riot at the paper mill up near International Falls and what the members did up there, you would not doubt stuff like this is possible. Were you there in the 70's? I was. My mom is from there.
You think someone was giving ME a line of bull when YOU are the guy that thinks a CIA missle hit the pentagon instead of a hijacked airplane? Which sounds more like a load of bull? Geez NO REALLY you have jumped on me a few times in the past and it always happens that you never pay attention to the details in the post and put words in somebody's mouth. READING COMPREHENSION is your friend. If you don't like what someone says and want to counter it fine, thats what we do here. But at least do the poor bastard the favor of figuring out what he is saying first, and when you do that, feel free to call their post BS.
