I'm looking into the bowling alley business. Anyone familiar with the financial aspect of the business? operating cost, profitability, average occupancy...

Thanks

NAICS: 713950; SIC: 7933 (Bowling Centers)

You will need access to Risk Management Association Financial ratios...
also Ibisworld.
I don't think the Financial studies of small business have anything specific to bowling centers
Also check the Lifestyle market analyst for best customers and psychographic data.

Excerpt:
The initial start-up expenses will be approximately $300,000. The inventory, equipment, furniture, fixtures, and leasehold improvements will cost approximately $125,000. Investors and/or a bank loan must be secured in the amount of $125,000 at 14.0% amortized over ten years. The initial investors will furnish approximately $50,000, which is 18.5% of the total. After all expenses of start-up, $40,000 will remain in a new business checking account and will provide the balance of the initial working capital.

Thanks for sharing all the great info gatecrasher. These figures look kind of low. I was expecting a multimillion dollar start up cost. Of course I calculated a 30 lane alley. I will go read the source and see whats different from my assumptions...

I think it depends on what you plan on including. Is it a family center with other activities ie mini golf, karts, arcade, etc? Do you have a small burger hot dog and soda koisk? Serving alcohol? Locker rooms? Shoes & Balls inventory?

I highly recommend finding someone with a copy of the RMA. Probably your Local small business counselor (You have already paid for their services with your hard earned tax payer $$$)

Check out the July/August of Inc. There is a one page article on a bowling ally for sale. They basically break it down for you.
