Default Opinions on the GeForce FX 5600 256 DDR?

Is it worth buying for $140?

Need something to replace my current video card.

And, I'm a hardcore gamer, but not ready to shell out $400 for a FX 5900 Ultra.

Thanks,

Bryan

Yes it is, but make sure it is manufactured by GAINWARD. Don't bother with that crap MSI or whatever shit.

I dunno about the 5600. Try to find the video card reviews at hardocp.com

I remember there was a released card by nVidia that was crap. It couldn't even beat a card that had been released 6 months earlier.

MSI make very decent quality video cards for the mainstream gamer. Gainward are more oriented for the over-clocking crowd, which I don't subscribe to. NVidia chips on the whole are very stable, very efficient and in my opinion a good buy.

As for the GFFX 5600, I have no idea what it's performance is because I have never used one, although I have played on a computer running a 5900 Ultra with all the hardware features turned on and there was a little pool of drool under the chair. It's SWEET.

If you're being financially concious, you could always stay in GeForce 4 territory and be happy for years to come ^_^

For the money, it's a good piece of hardware. I've become more and more of an ATI fan in the past year though. Their stuff is rock stable.

I bought the Gainward GeForce FX 5600 256 DDR for $145 last weekend and have it driving a 21" Samsung flat panel (1600x1200). So far, it has been great. I'm not a hardcore gamer though - more for digital photography, video editing, etc.
