That's not nice to compare emachines to Mr. Hanky. The Christmas Poo deserves more respect than that.

I would go back to a typewriter before I buy an emachine... It's the Kia or Hyundai of computers.

Do you need it to have a battery? I found that with my previous laptop it was plugged in 100% of the time anyway.

So what I did was go with an ECS Desknote. What it is, is a laptop that uses desktop ram, and desktop processor. Which makes it crazy cheap (and easily upgradable). Not to mention you don't have the internal battery.

Mine is a P4 2.4 Ghz (I didn't go with the Athlon because it runs much warmer, even tho I like Athlons better), 512 MB DDR RAM, 40 GB HD, CD-RW/DVD Combo, Almost every port imaginable (4 usb 2.0 for example), 15 inch LCD, 64MB DDR Video Card.

Back in March I paid $999 US for it. I'm thinking its probably a bit cheaper now.

I'm using a new IBM Thinkpad T30. 1.4 gig P4, 1 gig ram. I hate it. Slow, heavy, hot...

My next laptop - G4 Powerbook 17"
